The thing is, I asked the art committee a year ago if there was a way I could submit a proposal, and again a month ago, and never received a response.

I'm having great difficulty finding the correct marking system for the pattern in the border.
I've used a regular #2 pencil, which doesn't look nice, washable marker, chalk pencil, sidewalk chalk,
almost everything I can think of so far.
I am working on it, but it is going to take longer than I was hoping.

I received the quilt in three panels.

I had to join them with "bridges"

I then added in the gray sashing, red blocks at the intersections,

black filler at the bottom center panel, blue filler at the top center
panel,and green and brown border sashes.

Tonight I will layer the quilt, baste, and start the actual quilting.

Well, I didn't get to the actual quilting, but I did finish the basting.

Most of the quilting is done.

The binding is being added before the final quilting is done.

The quilt is finished.

The quilt is delivered to the props department.

A friend gave me some beautiful doilies to play with, so I cut out the flowers, beaded the edges, and sewed them onto a piece of fabric cut and edged to 14 x 60 inches. Came out spring-like, I hope.

This quilt has a lot of meaning, a lot of layers.
It was created out of receiving blankets of a little girl gone too soon.
The fields are quilted in a rose pattern.
The border is filled with quilted purple martins.
The fabrics in the border are from blankets,
and fabrics she might have worn. Silly to Sophisticated.
From Teddy Bears to Peace Signs.
From Jersey knit to Wedding dress satin.

I think the blue in the border cuts the saccharin of all the pinks. The border is graduated from light pinks and white at the top to the darker roses and mauve of the bottom. The border is a melange of the different fabrics a girl wears growing up. From satin to flowers, from polka-dots to peace signs.

I absolutely LOVE the quilt!!! I ADORE it! Everyone in the house does! It turned out sooooo beautifully. The fabrics you chose just tie the whole thing together perfectly. I love the border, I love the yellow butterflies on the back. I love it, love it, love it.

And Kim..... the quilting..... positively amazing. The lamb! The butterfly!! The ballerina!!! The giraffe!!!! I could not believe it. Such a subtle detail that only a true artist would think to do. The quilting is gorgeous... and all by hand, gasp!

Margaret loved it immediately, and asked if it could go on her bed. I hesitated, because of course I wanted it for myself, but it is now on her bed. We will have to set up a quilt swap schedule.

Kim, truly, the quilt is so lovely. Thank you so, so, so much for your talent and hard work. Another of your beautiful quilts in our home makes the place feel even more comfortable. I'm going to have to set up a Kim Morris Quilt Exhibit.

Next item on my wish list.... a queen size quilt for our bed. I'm thinking lots of different white fabrics - too dull? I will start saving. In the meantime, this gorgeous quilt will keep me thrilled for years and years and years.

I don't usually do this, but yesterday something nice happened and I want to share. I went to the website www.winfabric.com to see why they'd be following me on twitter. Turns out they have nice fabrics, and a contest. Every Friday some lucky sewer wins 2 yards of fabric, this week it was me.
It's colorful, cheerful, bright, for the dreary winter days ahead. I don't know quite what I'm going to do with it yet, keep checking back here to see what it becomes.
